A client from Abbotsford recently visited Certified Autosound and Security to ask about some 2017 GMC Sierra lighting upgrades. After discussing his vision for the truck, we hashed out a plan to add some LED accessory lighting to the doors and under the dash. The client loved the plan and scheduled an appointment to begin work.
After the client dropped off his Sierra, our guys pulled it into the bay and removed the interior door panels in preparation to running wiring. Because we would be adding several different lights to each door, using large-gauge wiring would ensure the accessory lighting would function reliably.
Heise Puddle Lights
Our team installed a Heise HE-FMTL1B accessory light on the bottom of each of the four doors. These lights face the ground to illuminate the area around the vehicle when the doors are open. They are compact and use high-quality CREE LEDs to provide an impressive amount of output while minimizing their load on the vehicle’s electrical system.
Heise LED Strip Lighting
The next step was to install several lengths of LED strip lighting in the interior of the vehicle. We added lighting to the edge of the dash and under the back of the front seats to illuminate the floor. Next, we added a strip of lighting to each of the three storage pockets in the back doors and the two pockets in the front doors. We mounted the light strips so they point outward from the inside skin of the panels and light up the door panel. In this position, the light strips are difficult to see when off and the truck looks completely stock with the lights off.
GMC Sierra 1500 Lighting Project
With all of the lighting installed, it was time to integrate the wiring into the vehicle. The Heise light in each door is connected to the door pin circuit. When the door opens, the lights turn on automatically. We added an override switch so those lights could be disabled if the customer wanted. The interior lighting has its own dedicated control switch that is tied into the ignition circuit of the truck. With the switch on, the lights turn on automatically when the truck starts.
The client was thrilled with the way his GMC Sierra 1500 lighting project turned out. The lights are located exactly where he wanted them and look great.
