A client from Abbotsford contacted the team at Certified Autosound and Security to get some help with the stereo in his 2015 Honda Civic Si. He had had work done by one of our competitors and wasn’t happy with the performance. Being a regular at car shows, he had clear expectations of what the system should sound like and how it should look. After working through several design evolutions, we came up with a plan to create something worthy of this clean sport compact.
BLAM Speaker Upgrade
Our fabrication team disassembled the tweeters from a BLAM 165RSQ component speaker set so that we could integrate them into the factory pods in the A-pillars. The result is an upgrade that looks as though it came from the factory while offering fantastic performance.
The woofers from the BLAM speaker set were installed in the factory door speaker locations. We added SQL Soundmat sound deadening and a set of Fast Rings acoustic coupling gaskets around each speaker to improve their performance.
JL Audio Car Stereo Amplifier and Kenwood Radio

We upgraded the vehicle with a Kenwood DMX906S multimedia receiver to provide Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The new radio features a 6.95-inch touchscreen display that makes it easy to see what song is playing. We used an ADS Maestro RR interface to connect the radio to the vehicle wiring and maintain the Lane Watch camera functionality.
The Kenwood radio is connected to a JL Audio RD900/5 five-channel amplifier. The front channels from the amp power the tweeters and the rear channels power the woofers in the doors. The mono channel provides up to 500 watts to the pair of subwoofers.
Custom Honda Subwoofer Enclosure

Our fabrication team created a custom enclosure that is home to a pair of JL Audio 10W1v3-4 10-inch subwoofers. The woofers fire into the trunk and are outlined with an accent panel wrapped in red vinyl and a thin trim piece wrapped in dark gray vinyl. A baffle around the perimeter of the enclosure fits flush with the edges of the trunk for a clean and tidy look. We finished the installation with a strip of red LED lighting hidden behind the subwoofer trim panel and two additional pieces under the dash to give the vehicle a little extra flair when on display at car shows.
Civic Si Stereo System Upgrade
With the three-way crossovers built into the radio configured and the sensitivity controls on the amplifier adjusted, it was time to return the vehicle to the owner. He was thrilled with the way it looks and loves the sound.
