A client from Whistler recently contacted Certified Autosound and Security about the feasibility of installing an Arctic Cat M800 audio system. He wanted to listen to music while riding off the trails and in deep snow. We had a look at the sled and devised a plan to add a Bluetooth receiver, an amp and a premium powersports speaker to give him the performance he wanted.
Bluetooth System Control
The project started with the installation of a JL Audio MBT-CRX Bluetooth receiver on the handlebar of the sled. Our team fabricated an ABS plastic mounting bracket that mounts to the top of the handlebar gooseneck. The MBT-CRX uses A2DP to stream audio from the client’s smartphone and includes play/pause, track selection and volume control buttons that communicate with the phone using the AVRCP protocol.
Two-Channel System Amplifier
The output of the MBT-CRX feeds a two-channel JL Audio M200/2 marine-grade amplifier. Our team mounted the amp under the seat to keep it away from the snow and the heat from the engine. We added a compact Shuriken battery to the sled to power the sound system. The sled does have a 12V electrical system but does not come with a battery. The Shuriken cell provides adequate energy storage to let the client enjoy his music even at high volumes.
JL Audio M770 Marine Speaker
The most important part of any sound system is the speaker. We used a single JL Audio M770-CCX-SG-TB 7.7-inch speaker for this build. Our fabrication team created a compact pod for it and mounted it on top of the engine cover, just behind the instrument cluster. Because this sled is designed for mountain use, Arctic Cat placed the air intake up high. We made sure that our speaker enclosure would not interfere with the function of the engine while still providing amazing sound.
The JL amplifier is bridged to the single four-ohm speaker and can provide up to 200 watts of power.
Arctic Cat M800 Audio System
With the installation and tuning of this Arctic Cat M800 audio system complete, it was time to hand it back over to the client. He hopped on and we showed him how to pair his phone with the JL Audio Bluetooth receiver. He picked his favourite song and cranked it up! He was amazed at how clear the system was and how loudly it could play.
