A repeat client from Abbotsford recently dropped into Certified Autosound and Security to discuss upgrading the stereo system on his Formula 260 boat. We’ve worked on several small jobs for the client and he’s always been happy with our craftsmanship and attention to detail. The stereo on his boat included a radio and a pair of speakers – not enough to entertain friends and family. After inspecting the vessel, we developed an upgrade solution that will sound amazing!
JL Audio Marine Speaker Upgrade
We started the project by removing the original radio and speakers. Our plan for the boat was to install two sets of JL Audio speakers and a pair of matching subwoofers. Our technicians installed a set of 7.7-inch M-Series M770-CCS-SG-WH component speakers on either side of the helm. We matched those to a set of MX650-CCX-SG-WH 6.5-inch coaxial speakers with the same white sport-series grilles.
To ensure that the system would be able to play loudly without distorting, we installed a pair of 10-inch M610IB-SGWG-WI-4LED subwoofers under the bench seats of the boat. Not only does having dedicated subwoofers in the system improve the bass response, but it also alleviates the need for the smaller speakers in the system to try to produce bass, so they sound better and can play much louder.
JL Audio Marine Amplifiers
The system is powered by a pair of M-Series amplifiers from JL Audio. An M600/6 six-channel amp powers the component and coaxial speakers while a matching M600/1 delivers 300 watts to each of the system’s subwoofers. The amplifiers are wired with Stinger power wire and interconnects and protected by a marine-grade circuit breaker. The circuit breaker is mounted beside the battery selector switch for easy access.
Marine Source Unit and Remote
We finished the upgrade by installing a Rockford Fosgate PMX-5CAN digital media receiver on a custom-made ABS panel on the left side of the helm. The PMX-5CAN digital media receiver includes a USB port to play music from a memory stick and Bluetooth audio streaming to source music from the client’s smartphone. We added a PMX-1R wired remote control to the side of the swim platform so the owner and his guests can see what’s playing and make adjustments.
Vancouver’s Marine Audio Experts
With the audio equipment installed and configured, it was time for the client to return to Certified Autosound and Security to hear the system for the first time. He was amazed at how much clearer the music was and how loudly he could play it!
