A client from Chilliwack recently contacted Certified Auto Sound and Security in search of a 2017 Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo stereo system. He loved the performance that the two-seater offered, but wished it had come with a stereo. We talked about how loud he wanted the system to play and where we could mount equipment. After designing the system and explaining our concept to the client, he approved the plan, and we scheduled an installation.
Source Unit, Speaker and Subwoofer Installation
The Maverick doesn’t come with a provision for a radio. Our fabrication team created a pod from acrylic plastic to let us install a JL Audio Media Master MM100s. The new pod puts the radio in the center of the dash, just above the main switch panel. Wanting to be able to overcome noise from the engine, we chose a set of JL Audio MX650-CCX-SG-TLD-B 6.5-inch coaxial marine speakers with blue LEDs for the dash. Our team created a set of fiberglass mounting pods for the speakers to place them on either end of the dash. We chose a set of JL Audio VeX Series PS650-VeX-SG-TMB 6.5-inch speaker pods to serve as rear speakers. The pods mount securely to the rear of the roll cage. Thankfully, JL Audio offers mounting brackets to fit every conceivable size tubing from 0.75 to 3.25 inches in diameter. What fun would a stereo be without a subwoofer? To ensure the Maverick has great bass, we created a custom subwoofer enclosure for a single JL Audio 10TW3 10-inch driver. Once we had the radio mount and speaker pods sanded smooth, we finished them with a durable truck bedliner coating. This coating is not only incredibly durable, but it can withstand UV exposure and is water resistant.
Weather-Resistant System Amplifiers
In keeping with our goal of providing weather-resistant products for the Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo stereo system, we chose a pair of JL Audio MX series amplifiers. An MX500/4 and an MX500/1 are mounted upside down on a sheet of acrylic plastic and located under one of the seats. This keeps the amps off the floor and makes them much easier to set up, since the adjustments are on the bottom of the amp. The four-channel MX500/4 provides up to 70 watts to each of the four speakers while the subwoofer amp produces 500 watts for the subwoofer. With the open design of the Maverick, having lots of power for the subwoofer ensures great output to keep up with the midrange speakers.
Can-Am Maverick X3 Turbo Stereo System Upgrade
With the amplifiers set up for optimal performance and the system thoroughly tested, it was time to return this awesome little side-by-side back to the client. He loved the way the installation looked and was thrilled with the sound.
