Backup Cameras & Sensors

Backup Cameras from Driven Audio, Abbotsford, BC
Backup cameras give you excellent field of view in what are usually dangerous blindspots.

Backing up is one of the most dangerous things we can do while driving, but backup cameras and backup sensor systems help make it safer. When reversing out of a parking spot or pulling out of a driveway, our vision is limited, which can lead to dangerous situations. Backup systems reduce that danger.

The technology for backup camera systems and backup sensors has advanced  over the past few years, and price drops have made them cost-effective for everyone and every type of vehicle – even RVs.

Backup cameras – Easy to add on

Even if your car or truck does not have a display or screen, we here at Certified Autosound & Security can easily add one and mount a rearview backup camera on your vehicle. One of the most popular options we have is a rearview mirror camera system that comes with a replacement rearview mirror with an LCD screen in it that turns on automatically when you put your car in reverse. Our wide-angle cameras let you see what is behind your vehicle as you back up and can even give you parking assist lines to help guide you into a parking spot and know when to stop.

We can also integrate a camera to display on one of our in-dash video or navigation radios, giving you a big 6″ display of what’s behind you. Our technicians can often fit a backup camera system into your vehicle in less than three hours – with no major modifications required to your vehicle.

Backup camera styles and options

At Certified Autosound & Security, we carry several styles of backup cameras. There are three main types to choose from:

• Plate- and bar-style cameras that mount on your vehicle’s license plate.

• Plug or knockout cameras that fit into a vehicle’s factory mount hole for a rearview camera.

• Keyhole camera, which is usually flush-mounted to a vehicle’s bumper.

Each backup camera style is designed to give you a wide field of view regardless of where it is mounted. Some rearview cameras have “night vision” LEDs to help illuminate the path behind the vehicle on dark nights. One of our favorite cameras incorporates digital signal processing (DSP) to give you specific views, such as corner-out or down views for trailer hitch hookups – all without moving the camera.

RV backup cameras and commercial vehicle cameras

The bigger the vehicle, the bigger the blindspots when backing up. We have Motorhome RV backup cameras, and blindspot cameras for the sides of large commercial vehicles as well. These cameras offer more mounting options and are designed to handle the heavier daily driving and use that commercial vehicles see. You can see a video of one of our RV camera system installations on our YouTube page.

Backup sensors – the alternative to backup cameras

Backup Sensors in bumper of vehicle to aid in backing up
Backup sensors use radar to alert your to objects behind you while your vehicle is in reverse.

Backup sensors are getting more and more popular with drivers every day. These systems are installed into your back bumper and turn on when you are backing up. If there is an object behind you, the sensors make a series of beeps to alert you of the danger, and these will get faster as you get closer to the object.

Some reverse sensor systems also have a small display that can be mounted to your dash to show you where an object is in relation to your vehicle and approximately how far away it is. They do this by sending out a radar signal and picking up any reflections from objects behind you, making them the perfect alternative or complement to a backup camera system.

Installation makes the difference for your backup camera or backup sensors

Backup cameras for vehicles make a lot of sense, and they have to be reliable to be effective. Having your system installed professionally by Certified Autosound & Security ensures that all of the connections are made properly and will withstand the elements where necessary. This is especially true with truck backup camera systems, where connections and cables are run under truck beds.
