Emmanuel Arceneaux of the BC Lions recently returned to Certified Autosound and Security in Abbotsford to discuss some bass and lighting upgrades for his 2016 GMC Sierra pickup truck. Last year we installed JL Audio C3-650 components in the front doors, C2-650x coaxial speakers in the back doors and a basic subwoofer enclosure that includes a pair of 12TW3 subwoofers. The original system was powered by an HD1200/1 and XD400/4v2 amplifier that are mounted to the back wall of the truck. Manny, as he is known, wanted us to install larger subwoofers so the system would produce more bass and to add some wheel well and under-vehicle accent lighting.
Custom GMC Sierra Bass Upgrade
The original subwoofer in the Sierra sounded amazing and fit in the truck beautifully. When Manny told us he wanted something that played louder and also looked really cool, we contacted our friends at MTI Acoustics in Texas and talked to them about a one-off enclosure based on their Silverado/Sierra Stage 3 Under Seat solution. A few weeks later, we received the masterpiece you see here. This new enclosure houses a pair of 13.5-inch JL Audio 13TW5v2 subs in a down-firing configuration.
The top and the forward edge of the enclosure include clear Lexan windows that make the back of the subs visible. The interior of the enclosure and the Sierra badge on the front edge are illuminated with RGB LED lighting. The icing on the cake is custom vinyl stitching around the top edge of the enclosure that matches the leather upholstery in the vehicle.
The same JL Audio HD1200/1 1,200-watt amp powers the new enclosure, but with almost 20 percent more cone area, the new system plays a lot louder.
Custom RGB Wheel Well Lighting Upgrade
Manny spends the off-season at home in Texas and ships his truck back there when he isn’t playing for the Lions. He showed us some photos of friends’ trucks with RGB rock crawler lighting in the wheel wells and under the vehicles and asked if we could create something similar in his Sierra.
We put together a system that uses two Heise RGB LED rock lights above each wheel. We added three lights on each side of the truck using custom ABS mounting brackets that our fabrication team created. These brackets locate the lights as high as possible under the truck to ensure that the lighting pattern on the ground is even. The last step was to add two more lights behind the front grille of the truck.
Manny asked if we could upgrade the lighting inside the truck while we had it at the shop. We replaced the RGB LED light strip under each side of the dash with a pair of the rock lights on each side.
Of course, all the wiring for the lights is bundled and secured so that it isn’t visible and to ensure that it won’t be damaged.
A pair of switches in the overhead console controls the lighting upgrades. One switch controls the interior lighting while a second handles everything on the outside. The lighting controller for the subwoofer enclosure also controls the four pods under the dash of the GMC Sierra.
Custom Truck Audio and Lighting Upgrade
After a few days, we had Manny’s sound system dialed-in and all the lighting installed. He returned to Certified Autosound and Security in Abbotsford to check it out and was immediately in love! The lighting is incredibly bright and looks awesome on the lowered and wrapped truck. Manny loved the way the new subs sound and told us that he couldn’t wait to get the truck back down to Dallas after the season so he can show it off to his friends. In the meantime, he’s been tagging us on Instagram anytime he’s out and about with the vehicle lit up and the tunes cranked.
