Remote starters are a category that continue to be popular, and one of the common questions we get at Driven Audio is:
“Can you remote start diesel engine vehicles?”
Why, yes, we can. Our team are experts in modern vehicle electronics and we understand the differences in how a diesel engine starts compared to a gasoline model. Our remote start vendors make specific models that are engineered to start a diesel engine safely, even on the coldest days.
Diesel Engines Benefit From Remote Starting
In fact, if you own a diesel vehicle, the benefits of owning a remote starter are noticeably greater than for gas models. As you already know, your diesel engine takes longer to warm up than a gasoline model. From a comfort perspective, warming up your diesel engine is a bigger incentive for you. Our systems are designed to allow your engine to warm up for that longer period of time, so on those cold days, you will still go out to a warm vehicle.
However, the benefits of owning a remote starter for your diesel go way beyond making you more comfortable and de-icing your windows for you. Warming up your diesel engine is good for it. Have you ever noticed your vehicle doesn’t generate as much power if the engine is cold when you first get in it, until the engine warms up? Diesel engines run much better and burn less fuel when they reach operating temperature. Many of our clients will remote start their diesel vehicles every day of the year for this very reason.
Imagine this scenario: You get up in the morning and start getting ready for work. You go out to your vehicle, get in it and start on your way, only to realize you need to make a stop on the way. Wouldn’t it be great if the engine was already warmed up and you knew that you could drive it as quickly as needed right away?
Protect Your Engine With The Turbo Time Function
Driven Audio has another great feature that we add to many diesel vehicles. It is called a turbo timer. Modern diesel engines use turbochargers to make the engine more efficient. When you are driving up the road, the turbocharger can be spinning as fast as 100,000 revolutions per minute! When you pull into your destination and shut off the engine, the bearings in the turbo can still be incredibly hot. If you had a way to let the engine cool down for a few minutes before shutting it off, the turbocharger would have time to cool down. Now you do. Our turbo timer function lets you exit your vehicle, lock the doors, and keep your engine running for a few more minutes. The engine will safely shut down after the specified time while you move on to something more important.
