A client from Abbotsford, BC, brought his 1965 Ford Mustang to Driven Audio for a stereo system upgrade. We looked at the car and talked about the client’s goals. With a system planned, we started work.
The dash of the Mustang had been previously modified to hold a 1-DIN radio. We removed the old radio and installed a Kenwood KDC-X500. The new radio provides CD, Bluetooth and USB playback support along with several tuning features. To power the system, we installed a JL Audio HX280/4 amplifier.
For the front of the car, we created a set of custom kick panel pods for Audison AVX6.5 coaxial speakers. The use of the fiberglass pods meant that the vehicle didn’t need to be modified. For the rear speakers, we created a mounting plate in the trunk for a set of JL Audio C2-690tx coaxial 6×9 speakers. A grille cloth front cover conceals the speakers.
We wrapped up the installation by having our technician spend a few minutes setting up the equalization in the radio. This “little touch” dramatically transforms the system, taking it from “pretty good” to “fantastic!” The client loved the modern audio system upgrade to his classic car.
