A client from Abbotsford recently dropped into Certified Autosound and Security to discuss a 2015 Dodge Challenger audio system upgrade. He wasn’t happy with the clarity or volume-level capabilities of the system, and as with most factory-installed sound systems, he wanted a lot more bass. After we looked at the vehicle and auditioned several products in our store, we designed a simple upgrade that would give him the performance he wanted.
Dodge Challenger Audio System Integration
It’s impossible to replace the 8.4-inch Uconnect radio in the dash of the Challenger. As such, we used a PAC AP4-CH41 interface to extract an audio signal from the radio. This interface provides a full-bandwidth audio signal that is free from equalization and signal delay so that we can build a system that provides reliable and predictable performance.
The output of the PAC interface feeds into a pair of JL Audio RD-Series amplifiers. An RD500/1 amp powers the system’s subwoofers while an RD400/4 feeds the midrange and high-frequency speakers. As you can see from the photos, all of the wiring for the system is bundled neatly and secured using automotive-grade cloth tape.
Audison Speaker Upgrade
Because the performance of any audio system relies almost exclusively on the quality of the speakers used in the system, we upgraded the front stage of the Challenger with a set of Audison AV K6 components. This component set features a pair of 6.5-inch woofers that we mounted in the doors of the Challenger. We mounted the passive crossover networks for the speakers between the amplifiers on the back of the new subwoofer enclosure. We added several pieces of SQL damping material to the doors of the Challenger to cut down on noise transmission into the vehicle.
JL Audio Subwoofer System
We constructed a custom subwoofer enclosure to ensure this Dodge Challenger audio system would have the kick to back up the upgraded speakers. The sealed enclosure is home to a pair of JL Audio 10TW3D8 subwoofers. As you can see, we recessed the woofers into the face of the enclosure to give it a customized look. A set of SGR10TW3 mesh grilles protects the face of the subwoofers from damage by objects in the trunk of the car.
Dodge Challenger Sound System Upgrade
With the project complete, it was time for the client to check out his Challenger. He was very impressed with the upgrades we made and loved the neat and tidy installation. If you are near Abbotsford, Maple Ridge or Chilliwack and are interested in upgrading the audio system in your car, drop into one of the Certified Autosound locations and speak with a member of our team.
