A client from Abbotsford dropped into Certified Autosound and Security to inquire about a 2017 Ford F-150 rear seat entertainment solution. He wanted his kids to be able to watch movies or play video games while traveling to out-of-town hockey games. We had a look at the truck with the client and talked about how he wanted the entertainment system to look and function. Once we had an understanding of his goals, we put together a quote. He liked our plan, so we scheduled an installation appointment.
Ford F-150 Rear Seat Entertainment Video Solution
We turned to Advent for its custom headrest monitor solution. We chose a set of 8-inch Android-powered displays with built-in DVD players. Advent wrapped the headrests in black leather to match the seats and even stitched them with red thread to echo the look of the Sport appearance package.
The monitors in the headrests have a resolution of 800×480 pixels, and each unit includes an HDMI input to connect to the video source. The kids can operate the headrests independently to choose their own entertainment options.
Microsoft Xbox Game System
The plan for the Ford F-150 rear seat entertainment solution included a Microsoft Xbox video game system. We created a compact enclosure out of Sintra plastic for the Xbox to mount it under the rear passenger seat. With hockey gear in the truck all the time, we didn’t want to use wood in case it gets wet. The game console is visible from the front of the enclosure, so loading games is easy. All Xbox systems use Bluetooth communication for the game controllers, so the installation remains clean and tidy at all times.
To provide good, clean power for the Xbox, we installed a Samlex SSW-600-12A Pure sine wave power inverter. The inverter converts the 12V electrical system in the truck to a 120V AC outlet, just like you’d find on the wall at home. We disassembled the inverter and extended the power switch to the side of the game system enclosure. To turn the system on, flick the switch and press the power button on the face of the Xbox.
