A new client from Abbotsford, BC, came to Driven Audio to improve the sound quality of his stock 2015 Honda Civic stereo system. Our team of specialists spent significant time on listening to the system, taking notes as he explained what he liked and disliked about the sound.
Factory Honda Civic Stereo Retained For A Stock Look
We realized early on in the conversation that there was no reason to change out the stock head unit in the dash. It was loaded with many great features. What was lacking was good sound. The sound was anemic, almost lifeless, lacking any depth or detail in the music. We also picked up on the fact that the client wanted the vehicle to look as original as possible, and that we needed to keep as much trunk space for him as we could.
Once we were done with our consultation, we worked up what we felt was his best solution, and he liked our idea, so we set an install date.
Audison Prima Amplifiers A Perfect Match For The Civic Stereo
When it came time for the design phase, we recognized that this client was truly an audiophile. He wanted to extract every last ounce of sound quality from the stock stereo in the dash. That led us to using two Audison Prima amplifiers. These little guys are game-changers. They are incredibly small, but pack incredible technology, including a Bit processor, for which Audison has become famous. This processor allows us to eliminate the equalization that Honda engineers added to the music to try and make their cheap speakers sound better.
If we had left the musical signal alone, the quality would have suffered dramatically. The processor also allows us to drive each of the four front speakers and both of the rear speakers with dedicated amplifier channels. Our highly skilled technicians at Driven Audio were able to set time delay, crossover points and equalization parameters for each speaker, resulting in amazing improvement in sound. The amp powering the speakers is the Prima 8.9bit, and the amp powering the sub is the AP1D. The system now has several hundred watts of power, so there is never a lack of dynamics in the music. We installed both amplifiers under a front seat, stacking them one on top of the other.
Audison Voce Speakers For This Discerning Client
For front speakers, we went back to Audison, choosing the AVK6 package, which consists of a 1.1” tweeter that we mounted in the factory locations and a 6.5” woofer, also mounted in the stock location in the front doors.
Sound-Proofed Doors Ensure Maximum Sound Quality
We added sound-damping material to the front doors, rear deck and trunk area to reduce the possibility of vibration and to quiet the interior. We left the stock rear speakers intact as they are only used for rear fill.
Compact JL Audio Subwoofer Enclosure For Lots Of Bass In A Tiny Space
For low-end performance, we went to JL Audio, using the 10TW3-D4, a 10” subwoofer that works in a tiny box while producing excellent detail and authority in the low end.
When the team was finished with all of our fine-tuning of the system, we delivered the vehicle to the client. He was blown away by the improvement in the sound and the attention to detail of our work.
When you are ready to improve your sound system, we invite you to stop by Driven Audio and experience for yourself the improvements we can make to your vehicle.
