A client from Maple Ridge recently visited Certified Autosound and Security to inquire about having a dashcam installed. The client wanted a two-channel camera system integrated into the vehicle to monitor everything that happens in front of and behind the truck while driving. We inspected the vehicle and provided the client with a detailed quote to complete the installation.
Thinkware Dashcam for Ram 3500
The client chose a Thinkware two-channel camera system based on its features and reputation for reliability. The forward-facing camera includes the control system as well as a GPS receiver that captures vehicle location and speed information.
After thoroughly cleaning the windshield, we mounted the camera below the camera pod for the factory-installed lane departure warning system. We wrapped the power wiring and wire for the rear camera in automotive-grade cloth tape to keep them neat and tidy and to prevent buzzes and rattles as the cables pass through the vehicle.
We integrated the camera wiring with the vehicle so that it starts recording as soon as the truck starts. All of the wire-to-wire electrical connections we make are soldered to ensure maximum performance and reliability. Once those connections are complete, we protect them with premium vinyl electrical tape and secure them with zip ties. Sure, it sounds like a bit of overkill, but we want every part of the installations we perform to be as reliable as possible.
Rear Camera Installation

Because this Ram 3500 has a three-piece sliding rear window, the rear-facing camera was mounted on the passenger-side portion so the window can still open easily. The video cable for the rear camera is routed behind the truck trim panels and isn’t visible anywhere in the truck.
We finished the installation by connecting a smartphone to the camera using the integrated Wi-Fi hotspot. We configured the camera settings to optimize the image quality and, using the live-view feature, we made sure that both the front and rear image sensors were aimed properly.

After a few hours, we had the camera system installed and tested. We showed the client how the system worked and helped him set up his smartphone to access videos using Wi-Fi. He was very happy with his purchase and the way we had integrated it into his vehicle.
