A long-time client from Abbotsford recently contacted Certified Autosound and Security to inquire about a radar detector and laser defense system for his 2018 Porsche 911 Turbo S. The client has owned many high-horsepower vehicles in the past, but this 911 Turbo is definitely the fastest. He wanted a system that would protect him during those brief moments of over-judicious throttle application. After inspecting the vehicle and talking with the client about where he drives, we put together a solution based around the Escort MAX CI 360.
Escort MAX CI 360 Features

If you aren’t familiar with the MAX CI 360, allow us to explain what it offers and the components included in the system. Aside from the main control module, a compact control panel and an OLED colour display need to be installed in the interior of the vehicle. A GPS antenna is included to provide the driver with location-based warnings.
The MAX CI 360 includes a pair of radar receiver modules. The front module uses digital signal processing to provide the highest sensitivity possible to X, K and Ka-band police radar guns and provide the client with enough warning to make sure he’s traveling at a safe and legal speed before the officer can take a velocity measurement.
Police lidar systems, also known as speed laser, have become increasingly popular in British Columbia, especially around Vancouver. The MAX CI 360 includes two pair of ShifterMax laser transceivers – one pair for the front and a second pair for the rear of the vehicle. These sensors detect signals from a lidar gun and instantly transmit a scrambled message that prevents the gun from taking a reading. The operator can slow down, then cancel the transmission so the officer can take a reading that won’t require a speeding ticket.
Custom-Installed Radar and Laser Defense System
While high-quality equipment is important, how those components are integrated into a vehicle plays a significant role in determining the overall performance and reliability of the system. Our team of technicians has installed hundreds of high-end radar detectors and knows what it takes to make them look great and optimize their performance.
Installing the radar detector system in this 2018 Porsche 911 Turbo S began with the team removing the front and rear bumper covers to mount the radar receivers and ShifterMax sensors. The front sensors are mounted to the top of the front grille and are adjusted to aim directly forward and be level with the ground for optimal performance.
The rear sensors are mounted in a custom acrylic housing that our technician Tyler Neault created. Wings on each side of the housing secure the sensors in the perfect position and give them a factory-installed look.
Escort Display and Control Panel Installation
The last piece of the project was to integrate the control panel and display into the interior of the vehicle. The control panel is mounted on a custom-fit panel in the ashtray space in the center console. Since nobody in their right mind would smoke in a 911 Turbo, this is a perfect location and can easily be concealed by closing the factory cover.
The display for the MAX CI 360 needs to be easily visible while operating the vehicle. Our team created a custom mounting pod on top of the steering column housing to serve as a home for the OLED display. Information about the type of warnings the system has detected and where they’re coming from are displayed here as well as announced audibly from a hidden speaker.
Maximum Protection from Certified Autosound and Security
After several days’ work, our team had the Porsche 911 Turbo S radar system installed and tested, and we were ready for the client to return to our Abbotsford location to pick up the car. He was very impressed with how beautifully we had integrated everything. In fact, he liked the system so much that he wants us to install an identical solution in his father’s 2019 Ram Longhorn pickup truck.
