A client from Maple Ridge recently contacted the team at Certified Autosound and Security to inquire about upgrading the radio and speakers in his 2009 Ford F-150 pickup truck. The client wanted his music to play louder and sound better at all volumes. After inspecting the vehicle and talking to the client about the features he wanted, we designed an upgrade that would deliver on all his goals.
Ford F-150 Radio Upgrade
The project started with the installation of a Sony XAV-AX5000 multimedia receiver in the dash of the truck. This radio features a 6.95-inch touchscreen display and includes both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. Our team used a Metra mounting kit, wire harness adapter and antenna adapter to integrate the radio into the dash of the truck. We also added a USB extension port under the climate controls to make it easy to connect and charge a smartphone.
The output of the radio feeds to a Rockford Fosgate T400X4ad four-channel amplifier using Stinger X-Series interconnections. The Rockford amp can produce up to 100 watts of power per channel or 200 watts when a pair of channels are bridged together. The amplifier is mounted on the floor of the truck under the passenger seat.
Blam Speakers and JL Audio Subwoofer
The truck was upgraded with a set of Blam 165RSQ 6.5-inch component speakers that are mounted in the front doors. The rear doors were treated to a set of Relax Series 570RC 5×7-inch coaxial speakers. We treated the doors with SQL Soundmat damping material to help keep noise out of the interior while driving.
To ensure that the system would sound good, especially at higher volume levels, we installed a JL Audio CP108LG-W3v3 vented subwoofer enclosure under the rear seat. This compact enclosure features a vented design that delivers impressive output. The subwoofer is fed from the two rear channels of the Rockford amplifier and receives up to 200 watts of power.
Maple Ridge’s Car Audio Upgrade Experts
With the equipment installation complete, our team set to work adjusting the crossover and level controls on the amp to ensure that the system would sound great and play loudly without distorting. The client returned to Certified Autosound and Security to hear his new F-150 radio, speakers and subwoofer. He was thrilled!
