Certified Autosound and Security was recently contacted by Performance Water Sports in Abbottsford to assist in adding more bass to the JL Audio sound system on a new Supra SL 450 wakeboard boat. The boat comes from the manufacturer with high-quality, 10-inch, marine-grade subwoofers, but this client wanted even more low-frequency output.
Custom Wakeboard Boat Subwoofer System
After having the SL 450 wakeboard boat delivered to our Abbotsford location, our team inspected the existing sound system and the available storage areas to determine the best way to add additional subwoofers. The stock sound system includes two JL Audio M10IB subwoofers that are powered by an M600/1v2 amplifier. After our inspection, we came up with a plan to add a pair of 12TW3-D8 subwoofers and an M1000/1v2 amplifier to power them.
Moisture-Resistant Subwoofer Enclosures
Our fabrication team set to work creating a pair of compact enclosures that would fit into the storage compartment under the rear bench seat. The enclosures are constructed out of plastic so that there is no way they can be damaged by water or humidity. Our design orients the woofers facing towards the floor so that the cones are protected from life jackets, skis or anything else that would be stored under the seats. Durable carpet was used to finish the enclosures and prevent buzzes or rattles once installed. As always, we use stainless steel fasteners so nothing will corrode.
JL Audio Marine Amplifier Installation
We were able to squeeze the new M1000/1v2 amplifier for the subwoofers on the top of the existing amp rack. Our fab team created a mounting panel and spacer blocks to get it to fit up under the port dash area. We used a Stinger circuit breaker and wiring to feed power from the distribution center to the left of the amp and ensure the big monoblock would be able to deliver its rated 1,000 watts to the pair of subs.
After we installed the amp and ran new wiring to the new subwoofers, the last step was to configure the crossover and level controls on the amp to work with the rest of the system for smooth and seamless sound. Proper system configuration is an important step in ensuring that our clients get the most performance and reliability possible from their investment.
